1. Then Hannah prayed and said:
   "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
   My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.
2. "There is no one holy like the LORD;
   there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.
3. "Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak
   such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows,
   and by him deeds are weighed.
4. "The bows of the warriors are broken,
   but those who stumbled are armed with strength.
5. Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
   but those who were hungry hunger no more.
   She who was barren has borne seven children,
   but she who has had many sons pines away.
6. "The LORD brings death and makes alive;
   he brings down to the grave and raises up.
7. The LORD sends poverty and wealth;
   he humbles and he exalts.
8. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
   he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor.
   "For the foundations of the earth are the LORD'S;
   upon them he has set the world.
9. He will guard the feet of his saints, but the wicked will be silenced
   in darkness. "It is not by strength that one prevails;
10. those who oppose the LORD will be shattered.
   He will thunder against them from heaven;
   the LORD will judge the ends of the earth.
   "He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed."
11. Then Elkanah went home to Ramah,
   but the boy ministered before the LORD under Eli the priest.


사무엘을 엘리제사장에게 맡기고
그로 인하여 하나님께 기도와 찬양을 드리는 한나...

사무엘서는 처음과 끝이 한나이야기와 다윗의 이야기로 이루어져있다.
한나의 이야기와 노래로 시작한 사무엘서는 다윗의 이야기와 노래로 끝마치고 있다.
오늘 2장에 나오는 한나의 노래는 사무엘하 22장에 나오는 다윗의 노래와
거의 흡사한 형태를 이루면서 "왕의 승전가"를 부르고 있다.
다시말하면 하나님의 구원에 의해서만 이스라엘은 존재하며
또 승리할 수 있다는 사실을 사무엘서를 통해서 일관되게 말하고 있는 것이다.

한나의 기도는
한 여인이 자신의 기도를 들으시고 아들을 허락하셔서
자신의 슬픔과 고통을 이기게 하심에 대한 찬양일 뿐 아니라
우리의 인생의 주권자 되신 하나님이 나의 개인의 삶 뿐 아니라
민족과 전 우주의 통치자 되심을 고백하면서
하나님을 의지하는 것만이 우리의 삶의 유일한 방편임을 고백하고 있는 것이다.


생명을 허락하시고 또 창조하시는 하나님을 노래하는 한나
그 노래는 앞으로 이스라엘이 하나님을 의지하여 그 생명을 지켜야 하는
하나님의 나라임을 고백하고 그로 말미암아 하나님 앞에 서야할 것을 고백하는 것이리라
하나님은 우리를 높이시기도 하시고 낮추시기도 하시는 분이시다.
나의 삶과 생명의 주관자이시자 또한 온 세계의 주권자된신다.
나의 생각과 판단은 나의 것이지만 결단코 하나님의 인도하심을
잊어서는 하나님의 사람으로 살아 갈 수 없는 것이다.


하나님을 대적할 것인가?
아니면 그에게 순종하여 하나님의 사람으로 살 것인가?
때로는 나의 삶에서 하나님의 손길을 경험하지 못할 때도 있을 것이다.
그러나 언제라도 살아계신 하나님은 여전히 우리를 지켜보시며
온 세상을 주관하고 계신분이시다.
이 땅 가운데 당신의 사랑하는 자녀들을 기다리시고 그들을 인도하신다.


12. Eli's sons were wicked men; they had no regard for the LORD.
13. Now it was the practice of the priests with the people
   that whenever anyone offered a sacrifice and while the meat
   was being boiled, the servant of the priest would come
   with a three-pronged fork in his hand.
14. He would plunge it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot,
   and the priest would take for himself whatever the fork brought up.
   This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.
15. But even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest
   would come and say to the man who was sacrificing,
   "Give the priest some meat to roast;
   he won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw."
16. If the man said to him,
   "Let the fat be burned up first, and then take whatever you want,"
   the servant would then answer,
   "No, hand it over now; if you don't, I'll take it by force."
17. This sin of the young men was very great in the LORD'S sight,
   for they were treating the LORD'S offering with contempt.


엘리의 두 아들의 죄악
하나님을 섬기는 제사장으로 세워진 엘리는 한편으로 지도자인 사사의 역할을
함께 맡아 행하고 있었을 것이다.
그런데 그의 제사장으로써의 직무나 사사로의 직무에 대해서는
성경이 별 언급을 하고 있지 않지만 그의 아들들에 대해 언급함으로
엘리의 부족을 우리는 알아볼 수 있다.


엘리는 적어도 그의 아들을 교육하는데에 부족한 사람이었다.
성경이 기록하고 있는 것 처럼 당시에는 하나님의 말씀이 희귀하였다
이말은 다시 표현하면 하나님께서 당시에 당신의 말씀을 들려주시지 않았고
그 음성을 들을만한 사람이 없었다고 표현할 수 있을 것이다.
왜냐하면 사사기를 기록하면서 당시의 이스라엘이 하나님 없이 살았고
스스로가 다 왕이 되에 자기 소견에 옳은대로 행했다고 기록하기 때문이다.

하나님의 말씀을 들으려고 하지 않았기 때문에 하나님은 침묵하셨다
하나님이 살아계시지 않은 것은 아니었다(한나의 이야기를 보라)
그러나 하나님을 바라고 그 음성을 들으려고 하지 않는 이들에게
하나님은 말씀하시지 않으셨고 그들을 그 말씀을 듣지 못하였다


하나님의 음성을 듣지 않고 자기들의 소견에 옳은대로 행하는 것은
엘리의 두 아들을 통해 극명하게 드러나고 있는 것이다.
그들에게 하나님은 더 이상 존재하지 않으시는 분이었다.
드리는 제사 역시 하나님이 아니라 그 드려지는 제물이 중심이었고
그들의 관심은 자기의 배를 불릴 고기에 있을 뿐이었다는 것이다.
그들이 제사장으로 섬기고 있었다는 것은 단지 그들을 죄만을 이야기 하는 것은 아니다
그들의 아버지인 엘리 역시 제사장으로 실패하고 있는 것이다.
적어도 하나님 앞에서 그는 아들들의 죄악을 막아야 했을 것이고
그들의 잘못을 인하여 하나님 앞에서 제사장으로 세우지 말아야 했을 것이다
그것이 이스라엘을 위해서도 자기의 아들들을 위해서도 선한 일이었을 것이다.
그러나 엘리는 그렇게 하지 못했다.
그의 마음에 역시 하나님의 존재와 그 말씀의 위엄이 없는 것이다.
백성들도 여전히 그와 같았을 것이다.
이스라엘이 가나안에 도착하여 하나님의 나라로 세워진지 불과
얼마지 않아서 그들은 하나님을 잊어버린 민족이 된 것이다.


나의 삶에서 너무 자주 하나님의 사람으로 살아가는 것을 잊고
그 하나님의 말씀과 존재를 잊고 살아가는 우리의 모습을 본다......



18. But Samuel was ministering before the LORD
   --a boy wearing a linen ephod.
19. Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him
   when she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.
20. Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying,
   "May the LORD give you children by this woman to take
   the place of the one she prayed for and gave to the LORD."
   Then they would go home.
21. And the LORD was gracious to Hannah;
   she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters.
   Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.


엘리는 자기 아들들을 향하여 온전케 행하지는 못하였을지라도
하나님의 말씀에 악한 제사장을 아니었던 것 같다.

한나는 하나님 앞에 기도하여 얻은 아들을 하나님께 드리고
그 아들을 위하여 여전히 순전하게 행함으로 하나님의 축복을 경험한다.
물론 하나님께서 다른 아들과 자녀를 주지 않으셔도 충분하지만
하나님은 굳이 한나에게 자녀의 축복을 더하신다.
하나님의 마음은 참으로 풍성하시고 우리를 향하여 넉넉하시다.
심지어 우리가 기복적이라 말하는 것에서 조차도
하나님은 그 순전히 행하는 자들을 축복하시기를 쉬지 않으신다.


22. Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything
   his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept
   with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
23. So he said to them, "Why do you do such things?
   I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours.
24. No, my sons; it is not a good report
   that I hear spreading among the LORD'S people.
25. If a man sins against another man, God may mediate for him;
   but if a man sins against the LORD, who will intercede for him?"
   His sons, however, did not listen to their father's rebuke,
   for it was the LORD'S will to put them to death.
26. And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature
   and in favor with the LORD and with men.


엘리의 두 아들과 사무엘의 모습


엘리는 그 두아들의 악행을 듣고 그들을 견책한다.
하나님의 진노를 그들에게 상기시키지만 그들은 듣지 않는다.
늙은 엘리의 가르침은 그의 아들을 돌이키게 할 힘이 없었다.

엘리가 하나님 앞에서 어떤 평가를 받을지 알수 없으나
적어도 그가 자기의 아들로 인하여 괴로움을 격고 있음은 분명하다.
자녀를 가르치고 기르는 것은 참으로 어려운 일이다.
나의 삶이 그대로 자녀들에게 영향을 미치기도 하지만
나의 바른 삶이라고 해도 자녀가 온전히 따르는 것은 아님을 보기도 한다.


하나님은 자녀들을 우리에게 허락하신다.
그 자녀들을 기르면서 하나님의 마음을 배우게 하시고
겸손히 하나님의 인도와 도우심을 구하게 하신다.
그 자녀를 인해 부모의 신앙과 삶을 평가 할 수는 없으나
그 부모의 기도를 하나님은 결코 못들은채 하시지 않으신다.

두 딸을 키우면서
나의 모습을 바로볼 기회를 얻는다.
나의 연약과 부족을 바라보게 되기도 하고
나의 악함과 죄악을 보기도 한다.
지혜롭기가 힘들고 온유하기가 힘들다는 것을 고백한다.
그렇기에 자녀들을 인해서 철저히 하나님의 손길과 긍휼을 의뢰할 수 밖에 없다.



27. Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him,
   "This is what the LORD says:
   'Did I not clearly reveal myself to your father's house
   when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh?
28. I chose your father out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest,
   to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod
   in my presence. I also gave your father's house all the offerings
   made with fire by the Israelites.
29. Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering
   that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons
   more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts
   of every offering made by my people Israel?'
30. "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares:
   'I promised that your house and your father's house
   would minister before me forever.' But now the LORD declares:
   'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor,
   but those who despise me will be disdained.
31. The time is coming when I will cut short your strength
   and the strength of your father's house, so that there will not
   be an old man in your family line
32. and you will see distress in my dwelling.
   Although good will be done to Israel,
   in your family line there will never be an old man.
33. Every one of you that I do not cut off from my altar will be spared
   only to blind your eyes with tears and to grieve your heart,
   and all your descendants will die in the prime of life.
34. "'And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas,
   will be a sign to you--they will both die on the same day.
35. I will raise up for myself a faithful priest,
   who will do according to what is in my heart and mind.
   I will firmly establish his house,
   and he will minister before my anointed one always.
36. Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down
   before him for a piece of silver and a crust of bread and plead,
   "Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat."'"



하나님께서는 어린 사무엘이 당신 앞에 섬기는 것을 보셨고
그가 엘리의 두 아들로 인하여 악한 영향을 받지 않고 있음을 보여준다.


하나님은 무명의 사람을 보내어 엘리의 집안을 대하여 예언케 하신다.
그 두아들의 죄악은 하나님의 언약으로 제사장 삼으신 것을 끊게 하고
그들의 온 집안에 하나님의 진노를 임하게 하였다.

하나님의 진노는 단지 홉니와 비느하스에게만 임하는 것이 아니라
그의 자녀들과 그 후손에도 임하는 것이었고
하나님께서 하나님을 섬기도록 세우셨으나 하나님을 멸시한 그들을
하나님이 멸시하시고 징계하신다고 말씀하신다.


하나님을 섬기며 그의 백성으로 사는 것은
그 마음에 하나님을 존중하고 그 말씀을 순종하는 것이다......
