1. Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram.
   He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded,
   because through him the LORD had given victory to Aram.
   He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.
2. Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel,
   and she served Naaman's wife.
3. She said to her mistress,
   "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy."
4. Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said.
5. "By all means, go," the king of Aram replied.
   "I will send a letter to the king of Israel."
   So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothing.
6. The letter that he took to the king of Israel read:
   "With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy."
7. As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said,
   "Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life?
   Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy?
   See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!"
8. When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes,
   he sent him this message:
   "Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel."
9. So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.
10. Elisha sent a messenger to say to him,
   "Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed."
11. But Naaman went away angry and said,
   "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God,
   wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.
12. Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel?
   Couldn't I wash in them and be cleansed?" So he turned and went off in a rage.
13. Naaman's servants went to him and said,
   "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing,
   would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!"
14. So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times,
   as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.
15. Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God.
   He stood before him and said,
   "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. Please accept now a gift from your servant."
16. The prophet answered,
   "As surely as the LORD lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing."
   And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.
17. "If you will not," said Naaman, "please let me, your servant,
   be given as much earth as a pair of mules can carry,
   for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the LORD.
18. But may the LORD forgive your servant for this one thing:
   When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning on my arm and I bow there also
  --when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the LORD forgive your servant for this."
19. "Go in peace," Elisha said. After Naaman had traveled some distance,
20 Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself,
   "My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought.
   As surely as the LORD lives, I will run after him and get something from him."
21. So Gehazi hurried after Naaman.
   When Naaman saw him running toward him, he got down from the chariot to meet him.
   "Is everything all right?" he asked.
22. "Everything is all right," Gehazi answered.
   "My master sent me to say,
   'Two young men from the company of the prophets have just come to me from the hill country of Ephraim.
   Please give them a talent of silver and two sets of clothing.'"
23. "By all means, take two talents," said Naaman.
   He urged Gehazi to accept them, and then tied up the two talents of silver in two bags,
   with two sets of clothing.
   He gave them to two of his servants, and they carried them ahead of Gehazi.
24. When Gehazi came to the hill, he took the things from the servants and put them away in the house.
   He sent the men away and they left.
25. Then he went in and stood before his master Elisha.
   "Where have you been, Gehazi?" Elisha asked.
   "Your servant didn't go anywhere," Gehazi answered.
26. But Elisha said to him,
   "Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you?
   Is this the time to take money, or to accept clothes, olive groves,
   vineyards, flocks, herds, or menservants and maidservants?
27. Naaman's leprosy will cling to you and to your descendants forever."
   Then Gehazi went from Elisha's presence and he was leprous, as white as snow.




엘리사와 나아만의 이야기
하나님의 사람 엘리사의 이적과
아람장군 나아만의 연약한 믿음
그리고 물질에 눈이 어두운 게하시의 죄

우리의 삶 가운데서
얼마나 자주 이러한 군상들을 보는지
우리는 하나님의 사람을 보기는 어려운 시대를 산다.
그 말씀을 붙들고 하나님의 말씀만을 드러내기에 힘쓰는
나의 모습과 나의 이름을 위하여서가 아니라
하나님의 영광을 위하여 사는 사람들....

철저하게 자기의 이름과 얼굴 그리고 힘을 드러내지 않는 엘리사를 본다.
자기의 입을 빌어서 어떠한 특별한 동작과
기도를 통하여 하나님의 영광을 조금 취할 수 있을텐데
그를 낮게 하는 방법과 행동에서부터
그의 감사와 찬양을 받는 그 자리까지
엘리사는 철저하게 자기를 감추고
하나님의 영광과 존재를 그 주권을 드러내려 하고 있다.

또 나아만은
아람의 장국으로 이방인이었으며
하나님을 신뢰하는 사람이 아니었지만
자신의 연약함을 인해서
그 병을 낮게 하고자 하는 일념으로 선지자를 찾아오고
그 선지자의 말에 순종하는 것을 본다.
그나마도 그는 바로 순종하는 것이 아니라
종의 충고를 듣고서 그야말고 "밑져야 본전"이라는 심정으로
말씀에 순종하는 모습을 볼 수 있다.
그러나 하나님은 그러한 연약한 순종이라 할 지라도
그 순종을 받으시고 그를 긍휼히 여기시는 것을 본다.
그를 낮게 하시고 그의 영혼을 살리시는 것이다.

나아만은 하나님의 은혜를 체험하고
비록 이방인이지만
자기가 할 수 있는 한도내에서
하나님을 섬길 것을 결단하고 고백하는 것을 본다.
하나님은 이러한 연약한 믿음도 받으시며
또 사용하시는 것이다.
그가 이후에 어더하였는지는 알수없다.
그러나 분명한 것은 하나님은 지금도 여전히
이러한 작은 믿음과 헌신을 사랑하신다는 것이다.


반면 게하시는 하나님의 사람의 종이었다.
하나님의 사람 엘리사 곁에서
선지자를 수종하면서 말씀을 듣고 이적을 체험하였을 것이다.
하물며 바로 전에 수넴 여인의 아들을 살리는 일에 동참하고 있음을 보면
그는 그저 엘리사르르 따라만 다닌 것이 아니라
그의 사역에 동반하여 수종하는 사람이었을 것이다.
그러나 그는 물질을 보고 그 마음이 흔들리고 만다.
물론 당연히 받을 수 있고
얻을 수 있는 물질일 것이며
그 물질을 그의 말 처럼 유용하게 사용할 수 있을 것이다.
그러나 그것을 인하여 하나님의 영광이 가리워지고
또한 그러한 준비가 없으면 하나님이 도우실 수 없는 것처럼 생각하는 것
그의 신앙은 거기까지였던 것이다.
하나님은 그를 징계하신다.

현대 교회에서 얼마나 자주 이러한 일들을 보는가?
인간의 물질을 얻어서
하나님의 일에 사용한다면
더러운 돈이라 할지라도
선하게 사용할 수 있을 것이라는 유혹말이다.
물론 틀리지 않는다.
그러나 하나님은 굳이 잘못된 돈을 사용하지 않으시고라도
하나님의 일을 하실 수 있는 분이시다.
물론 그 일을 하실 때에 인간을 사용하시기는 하지만

참으로 조심해야 할 것이다.
과연 하나님의 마음에 합한 일을 하고 있는지
또 하나님의 말슴에 바른 일을 바른 방법으로 하고 있는지를....
