이스라엘의 첫 왕으로 세우신 사울

하나님은 왜 사울을 왕으로 세우셨을까?
혹시 그의 실패를 하나님이 계획하시거나 아시고 세우신 것은 아닐까?
이 실패를 인하여서 이스라엘의 왕을 요구한 것이 잘못임을 깨닫도록......



1. There was a Benjamite, a man of standing,
   whose name was Kish son of Abiel, the son of Zeror,
   the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah of Benjamin.
2. He had a son named Saul, an impressive young man without
   equal among the Israelites--a head taller than any of the others.
3. Now the donkeys belonging to Saul's father Kish were lost,
   and Kish said to his son Saul, "Take one of the servants with you
   and go and look for the donkeys."
4. So he passed through the hill country of Ephraim and through
   the area around Shalisha, but they did not find them.
   They went on into the district of Shaalim, but the donkeys
   were not there. Then he passed through the territory of Benjamin,
   but they did not find them.
5. When they reached the district of Zuph, Saul said to the servant
   who was with him, "Come, let's go back, or my father will stop
   thinking about the donkeys and start worrying about us."
6. But the servant replied, "Look, in this town there is a man of God;
   he is highly respected, and everything he says comes true.
   Let's go there now. Perhaps he will tell us what way to take."
7. Saul said to his servant, "If we go, what can we give the man?
   The food in our sacks is gone. We have no gift to take to
   the man of God. What do we have?"
8. The servant answered him again. "Look," he said,
   "I have a quarter of a shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God
   so that he will tell us what way to take."
9. (Formerly in Israel, if a man went to inquire of God,
   he would say, "Come, let us go to the seer,"
   because the prophet of today used to be called a seer.)
10. "Good," Saul said to his servant. "Come, let's go."
   So they set out for the town where the man of God was.


기스의 아들 사울의 출현

이스라엘 백성들이 사무엘에게 왕을 요구하고
하나님은 그것이 하나님에 대한 부정이라 하시면서도 이를 용인하신다.
그리고 그 왕정을 시작하는 처음에 사울에 대한 기록을 보여준다.


사울은 유력한 집안의 사람이었고
베냐민 지파의 사람으로 출중한 외모를 지닌 사람이었다고 기록한다.
적어도 그의 외적인 조건과 심성의 일반을 보여주는 에피소드를 기록하므로
이스라엘의 첫 왕으로 세워진 사울이 결코 실패를 위한 선택이 아님을 보여준다.


사울은 집안의 재력이나 용맹함에 있어서 다른이들보다 뛰어났던 것 같다.
이는 보여지는 기록 이외에도 이후의 여러정황을 통해 알수 있다.
그리고 적어도 그는 아버지의 명령에 신실하게 순종하는 아들이었고
그 일을 위해 40Km를 움직일만큼 순수하기도 하였다.
그리고 아버지의 마음에 근심이 생기지 않도록 적당한 곳에서
되돌아 갈 결정을 내리는 모습도 보여준다.
그리고 지금은 자기와 함꼐한 사환의 말을 듣고 그 충고에 귀기울일줄 아는
현명하고 겸손한 사람인 것을 보여준다.


즉 사울의 사람됨은 다른 어떤 사람과 비교해 보아도
결코 부족하지 않은 사람이었고 이를 선택한 하나님의 선택도 틀리지 않았을 것이다.


11. As they were going up the hill to the town,
   they met some girls coming out to draw water,
   and they asked them, "Is the seer here?"
12. "He is," they answered. "He's ahead of you. Hurry now;
   he has just come to our town today, for the people have a sacrifice
   at the high place.
13. As soon as you enter the town, you will find him before
   he goes up to the high place to eat.
   The people will not begin eating until he comes,
   because he must bless the sacrifice; afterward, those who are
   invited will eat. Go up now; you should find him about this time."
14. They went up to the town, and as they were entering it,
   there was Samuel, coming toward them on his way up
   to the high place.


사무엘을 만나는 사울
하나님은 사무엘과 사울의 길을 인도하셔서
그 만남을 이루어 주신다.

이것은 적어도 자울을 세우시는 하나님의 주권을 드러내시는 것이고
이 일을 통하여 하나님이 세우시는 왕이라는 개념을 드러내신다.
이스라엘의 왕은 하나님의 대리인으로 이스라엘 백성의 형제이고
하나님의 통치를 대행/혹은 중개하는 사람으로 백성들 옆에 서야함을 보여준다.


하나님은 첫 왕 사울을 세우실 때에
하나님이 친히 그 사람을 선택하시고 부르시며
사무엘을 만나게 하심으로 그 길을 인도하셨음을 명확히 하시는 것이다.


15. Now the day before Saul came,
   the LORD had revealed this to Samuel:
16. "About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from
   the land of Benjamin. Anoint him leader over my people Israel;
   he will deliver my people from the hand of the Philistines.
   I have looked upon my people, for their cry has reached me."
17. When Samuel caught sight of Saul, the LORD said to him,
   "This is the man I spoke to you about; he will govern my people."


하나님의 선택과 이유
하나님은 백성들의 부르짖음을 듣고 그들을 돌아보아 사울을 준비하셨다.
이 스토리는 어떻게 보면 하나님이 사사들을 세우실때의 상황과 같다.
그리고 역시 같은 방법으로 하나님꼐서 사무엘을 세우셨었고
이번에는 사울을 세워 왕을 삼고 계신 것이다.


하나님은 사울을 세우시면서 이스라엘을 구원할자로 세우시고
하나님의 통치를 매개할 자로 세우시기를 원하신 것이다.
하나님은 사울에 대하여 이미 사무엘에게 말씀하셨고
하나님의 선택을 사무엘을 통하여 알리고 계신 것이다.


18. Saul approached Samuel in the gateway and asked,
   "Would you please tell me where the seer's house is?"
19. "I am the seer," Samuel replied.
   "Go up ahead of me to the high place, for today you are to eat
   with me, and in the morning I will let you go and will tell you
   all that is in your heart.
20. As for the donkeys you lost three days ago, do not worry about them;
   they have been found. And to whom is all the desire of Israel turned,
   if not to you and all your father's family?"
21. Saul answered, "But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe
   of Israel, and is not my clan the least of all the clans of
   the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?"
22. Then Samuel brought Saul and his servant into the hall
   and seated them at the head of those who were invited
   --about thirty in number.
23. Samuel said to the cook,
   "Bring the piece of meat I gave you, the one I told you to lay aside."
24. So the cook took up the leg with what was on it and set it
   in front of Saul. Samuel said, "Here is what has been kept for you.
   Eat, because it was set aside for you for this occasion,
   from the time I said, 'I have invited guests.'"
   And Saul dined with Samuel that day.
25. After they came down from the high place to the town,
   Samuel talked with Saul on the roof of his house.
26. They rose about daybreak and Samuel called to Saul on the roof,
   "Get ready, and I will send you on your way."
   When Saul got ready, he and Samuel went outside together.
27. As they were going down to the edge of the town,
   Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant to go on ahead of us"
   --and the servant did so--"but you stay here awhile,
   so that I may give you a message from God."


사무엘은 사울을 데리고 함께 산당으로 가서
가장 상석에 앉히고 그에게 준비된 예물을 먹게함으로
그를 하나님이 왕으로 세우셨음을 간접적으로 알리고 있다.
그리고 그에게 있는 여러 모습을 보이면서
사울이 왕으로 부족하지 않은 사람임을 드러내고 있는 것이다.


우리는 사울의 실패를 너무 익숙히 알고 있기 때문에
그의 왕됨에 대해서도 부정적일 수 있지만
적어도 그는 하나님의 손에 왕으로 세워질만한 사람이었음을 성경은 보여준다.
하나님의 부르심으로 왕이되었고 이스라엘을 다스리게 되었으나
그가 하나님의 백성을 다스리는 왕으로 세워진 후에
그 왕의 자리에 대한 오해와 욕심으로 말미암아 하나님의 기뻐하시는
자리를 떠나 자기의 욕심을 채우는 왕의 자리로 실패하였을 뿐이다.


적어도 사무엘서는 이러한 기록들을 통하여서
이스라엘의 왕이 누구신가하는 문제를 드러내고 있는 것이다.
또 인간 왕을 세우신 하나님의 뜻을 따라 왕이 되었다면
그의 왕권과 통치의 모습은 하나님의 통치를 실행하는 사람이어야 하며
그 자세는 철저하게 백성들의 형제로 그들을 섬기며 살피는 자리여야 함을 보여준다.
그들의 통치자로 주권자로 서려고 하는 것은
하나님의 통치를 엿보는 것이고 이로 인하여 하나님의 자리를 가로채면
이는 하나님의 진노가운데 거하는 사람이 될 수 밖에 없음을 보이시는 것이다.


우리는 서로에게 섬기는 존재일 뿐이다.
하나님의 백성은 절대적으로 하나님의 통치아래 있다.
하나님의 주권이 우리를 덮고 있으며 우리는 그 아래 살아간다.
하나님의 주권을 무시하고 그 통치를 이해하지 못하면
인간이 인간을 다스리거나
나의 삶의 주권을 하나님이 아닌 다른 것에 맡기는 것은
하나님의 백성으로 실패하는 지름길이며
하나님의 기뻐하지 않으시는 삶인 것이다.


우리의 사람됨의 문제가
혹 우리의 자리나 형편에 따라 바뀌는 것은 아닌지 살펴볼 것이다.
우리가 어디에 있든지 철저하게 하나님의 사람으로
하나님의 말씀에 순종하는 사람으로 사는 거을 하나님은 원하신다.


나의 나이가 늘어나면서
나의 지위가 변하면서
또 나의 지식과 생각이 늘어가면서 더욱 하나님 앞에 겸손할 것이다.
